What does the Raiders press conference say of new GM Reggie McKenzie?

New Oakland Raiders GM Reggie Mckenzie

“I go with my gut a lot. Okay?”

So are the words of the new general manager of the Oakland Raiders: Reggie McKenzie. Within days of his hiring, McKenzie has made it clear that he’s in charge and led with the firing of coach Hue Jackson. Yet the major criticism for this new GM does not come about from his controlling approach, but rather from his contradicting and illogical demeanor

The thought process in firing coach Hue Jackson

In the press conference McKenzie  was asked about the reasoning behind firing coach Jackson and McKenzie’s response signaled what a perilous future the Raiders will have.

The first point McKenzie highlighted in his response was that he wanted “his guy.” He then stated that decisions are based on performance and transitioned abruptly to state that his decision was based on his gut feeling.

From the beginning of the McKenzie era it is obvious that this general manager will have absolute control. What’s even more alarming, aside from the fact that there won’t be a system of check and balances in place, is that McKenzie won’t have a protocol for making decisions. He will base his actions on emotions. Or sometimes performance. Either of which are not traits found in exemplary general managers.

The new Raiders General Manager answers questions?

Reggie McKenzie provided a hopeful scripted speech at the start of the press conference but once he began to answer questions from the reporters his various weaknesses became apparent. He wants to be decisive but is so indecisive in doing so.

He mentions that he has complete control over the Raiders operations but does not have any idea of what he’s building. This may just have been a bad first impression and the result of a poor press conference performance. But I’m sure that this is indicative of downward spiral the Raiders will endure at the helm of a general manager who is not qualified and capable of managing a franchise. Because sometimes, you just know when it’s not a right fit. And that’s my gut feeling.

I don't know. Sometimes it feels like my writing & thoughts are way off. Who knows if it'll help anyone or if it means anything.

… The younger prcpoest would have some advantage as far as longevity and perhaps free thinking and new ideas…But at a loss when it comes to experience -n- wisdom -n- just plain football knowledge and the ability to earn the respect of the other old men in the room…Owners… Than there’s the problem with knowing a young man’s heart??…How do you with an outsider???…This is a time tested quality…As in the case of Parcels who threw time has proven to not be a finisher…Al Davis was a very principled man who held to what was very dear to him…No young man is in a position to exemplify that while his dick still runs his head!!! Do we want to end up with another “JawBone” Hanson???…That could happen… So I instead look to an old and tested insider or very close and respected friend with tremendous knowledge and experience and the other time tested qualities to be that man in the near future…I see that as a primary need and it’s already been reported that some now see the Raiders as vulnerable and attackable…That older man is very much needed for a view of stability and strength!!! Included with him may be another or a small group of others who would be in training for the position at a later date…I will certainly sign off on that because than we still have that young voice and new ideas without the risk of running the ship aground!!!..Hue is that now!! But than I’m an old man so view things much differently than the younger mind that’s so eager for change that they risk the safety of the ship… I don’t think Al Davis would have left a list of young that placed his organization at such risks???…Like the bringing in of Bresnahan who is older with proven tested loyalties…Not the Winston Moss that I was pimping with all his new tactics learned in “GB”…I see the wisdom in what Al Davis has done so far in leaving his organization in good hand and don’ expect to see any swerving from that very wise course now… PantyRaider…Slow-n-Sure-w-Steady Hand St The Helm!!!/_ 9:36 PMBlogger PantyRaider said… Raiders move forward, look to fill GM spot Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis had served as the team’s G.M. from 1963 until his passing on Saturday. The Raiders will now look to hire a general manager, and the club has started the search to find such a person to work in concert with head coach Hue Jackson, according to league sources. The Raiders’ model would likely be set up somewhat like Pittsburgh’s, in which coach Mike Tomlin and G.M. Kevin Colbert work in concert. The Raiders also could hire a consultant, likely an experienced hand like Ernie Accorsi or Ron Wolf, to help them through the rest of this season. Wolf, best known for his success as G.M. of the Green Bay Packers in the ’90s, worked for Davis’ Raiders for 26 years.Blogger PantyRaider said… Raider News: Raiders | Interested in Reggie McKenzie? Mon, 17 Oct 2011 08:50:38 -0700 The Oakland Raiders have formed a team of consultants to find a general manager for the organization now that managing general partner Al Davis has died. Among the consultants is former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, who along with others recommended Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie. It is not clear, however, if the Raiders have approached the Packers for permission to interview McKenzie.Blogger PantyRaider said… It’s being reported that the Raiders are interviewing Reggie McKenzie today. ———————————–

THIS GUY IS A DOPE , I CALL HIM

      • Antonio says:

I know we’ve commented on this beorfe, but so many times I see DE’s come in and have what appears to be a great game because they didn’t ask them to do too much. Just line up and go after the QB or the ball. Kind of like Justin Smith’s rookie year. Teams like the Giants and Titans get a good rush out of their DEs, is the reason why the Bengals don’t seem to do that as well because they are too worried about maintaining position to clog the running lanes?

    the blunders that i still havent recovered from are , jason campbell / 4TH, bush /2ND , routt / 3R OR 4TH , boss 4TH OR 5TH ,wimbley/ 4TH OR 5TH all leaving for FREE ???????

THE BRISEL move shows the inepetness , this created 3 other needs , wiz was log # 1 & center #2 , by moving him to center this early in his career does the following, creates needs at LOG #1 , center #2 , then compounded with the campbell trade ( another dopey move )creates the need for DEPTH @ ROG #2 WOW !!!!!!! WHAT A IDIOT !!!!
AND ALL YOU ALLEGED ” RAIDER ” FANS ARE LYING TO YOURSELF WITH THE ” YEAH GO REGGIE ” , AND THE ” OH WELL AL DAVIS STUCK HIM WITH A BAD SITUTATION ” YOU ARE ALL ” REGGIE DOPE AID ” DRINKING FOOLS !!!!!!!!
THIS TEAM WAS OLBR, CENTER & WEAK SIDE CORNER AWAY FROM BEING DOMINANT THIS YEAR ! ” THE REGGIE CHANGED THAT FOR GOOD , THEY WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM HIM EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. IRAIDER says:

OK SO AS I SAID THIS REGGIE IS A BIGGER INEPT DOPE THEN I THOUGHT , DJ HAYDEN , WOW! NEED NOT GO FURTHER ! HE IS SCAMMING MARK DAVIS OUT OF MILLIONS FOR HIS OWN SALARY , LET ALONE DENNIS ALLEN @ $ 2.5 MILL PER YEAR ANOTHER JOKE , THIS GUY AINT A HEAD COACH, NOR A DEF CORD PERIOD !
A GM NEEDS TO BE THE FOLLOWING
#1 A CAP GUY , THAT KNOWS HOW TO CREATE A CONTRACT THAT KEEPS THE TEAM A YEAR OR TWO AHEAD OF THE CAP HITS , LIKE AL DAVIS WAS THE BEST AT .
#2 A PERSONELL GUY- HE MUST KNOW TALENT AND GET THE INPUT FROM SOCUTS AND COACHES AND GUYS AROUND THE LEAGUE , COLLEGE AND PRO
REGGIE HAS PROVEN THE FOLLOWING IN HIS 2 YEARS HERE AS A GM !!
#1 HE HAS NO CLUE ABOUT THE NFL SALARY CAP AND THE RULES AND HOW IT WORKS, PERIOD
#2 HE IS NOT A PERSONEL GUY , FREE AGENT OR DRAFT PERIOD !
2012- DRAFT- BERGSTROM- BURRIS CRAWFORD CRINER BIKULDI- STUPAR TOTAL OF 6 PLAYERS WITH 3 GUYS LEFT ON THE ACTIVE ROSTER , AND ONLY STARTER IN BURRIS,WOULD HEB START ON KC-DEN-SDIEGO ? NO WAY ! ALSO CRINER WAS DRAFTED AND PUMPED UP BY ALLEN AND REGGIE CAUSE HE WAS A SLOW WR, NOT A AL DAVIS ATHELETE AT THE POSITION OK !! NOW LOOK @ CRINER, TO SLOW TO LINE UP IN THE NFL , BUT ALLEN THOUGHT HE WAS ” SMART ” , SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL ALLEN THAT SMARTS STARTS WITH THE HC IN THIS NFL BTW !
2013 DRAFT EVEN WORSE- DJ HAYDEN – A BUST THEN AND A BUST NOW ! WHAT A MEGA WASTE PERIOD ! WATSON- A BUST THEN AND A BUST NOW ANOTHER MEGA WASTE- SIO MOORE-CANT PASS DEF YET , BUT NOT BAD AS A TACKLER, , WILSON-WASTE OF A 4TH RNDR THEN AND NOW- I SAID IT THEN ,IF HE STARTS A GAME IN HIS CAREER HE WOULD B THE 1ST QB OUT OF ARK TO DO SO ! REGGIE DIDNT KNOW THAT ! WHY NOT ???? KASA MURRAY RIVERA MCGEE ( NOT BAD ) BUTLER- BASS THE LAST 6 AINT EVEN WORTH MENTIONING , THEY WOULD BE CUT OR PRACTICDE SQUAD FODDER ON 31 OTHER TEAMS, PERIOD !
